BOARD MEETING 4/27/2021

5/3/2021

North Phoenix Prep. Board Meeting Notes
April 27th 2021
7:40pm – 8:26pm

-Attending: Shea Duryea, Eileen Austin, Angie Nelson, Corinne Jacobson, Ginna Conner, Bruce Black, Kristi Kinney, Josh Miller, Estelle Davis.
-Election of new board members:  Gina Conner elected President, Eileen Austin elected Vice President and Treasurer, Jamie Davis elected Secretary.  All board members elected unanimously.
-The mission statement in the PSO Bylaws was read.
-Josh Miller discussed remaining PSO activities for the year.
  • Pancake breakfast on April 30th.  All ready to go with volunteers organized.
  • Teacher Appreciation week.  Being organized, funds coming in.
  • Good turn-out for these events and ready to go.
-Gina Conner presented an agenda for next year’s events as the PSO begins to look ahead.
  • Anticipating one middle school social per quarter, possibly two parent mixers, Snowstorm and Grateful Hearts, father daughter Dance (Archway PSO leads), Community Service Day, Spring Festival, field days pancake breakfasts, Teacher Appreciation Week, sunrise breakfast for seniors, high school retreat.
  • Parents are needed to take leadership responsibilities for the following committees:
Middle school socials (lead needed),
Snowstorm/Grateful Hearts (Jamie Davis leads),
Helping Hands (Millers lead),
Hospitality (lead needed),
Carpool (lead needed),
Community Service Day, (lead needed),
Teacher birthdays (lead needed),
Spring festival (lead needed),
high school retreat (lead needed),
teacher appreciation (Talitha Van Leeuwan),
used uniforms (lead needed),
passive fundraising (lead needed),
social media coordinator (Jay Conner).
-Discussion also took place regarding having a Parent Ambassador program to initiate new parents into the community.  In addition, there was discussion related to having a parent assigned to each grade level to support that grade and do fun things for that grade.  Sort of like a den mother/father for grades.
-Some discussion occurred relating to the Lost Canyon high school retreat.  This will be a labor-intensive event and require parent volunteers to help serve and clean-up meals.  It was discussed that, as much as possible and in compliance with the Lost Canyon rules, we should have our students support meal prep and clean-up.  Possibly, students could be assigned responsibilities according to their dorm assignments.  Alumni should also be invited to this event to help with the students, especially in the dorm rooms.  The earlier the event occurs the greater likelihood of being able to use college bound alumni.
-Josh Miller cautioned that the PSO should not bite off more than it can chew and that the ability for the PSO to take on activities is directly correlated to the amount of parent volunteers helping out.

-Meeting adjourned 8:26pm

-Notes prepared and submitted by Bruce Black
